How much will it cost?

The premium will depend on the daily benefit amount you selected and who is covered on the policy. For the member only, the monthly premium starts from R105.

What are the benefits and features?

Benefits included:

Hospital Cash benefit:
You will get a daily benefit amount of up to R4 000 for each full day (a continuous period of 24 hours from the time of admission to the hospital) spent in hospital.

CashBack benefit:
You may qualify for the Loyalty bonus and the No-claim bonus every three years. The Loyalty and the No-claim bonuses are each equal to 10 times your daily benefit amount. You can claim these bonuses every three years, if the policy has not been cancelled and you have paid all your premiums. You will only qualify for the No-claim bonus if you did not claim for yourself or your immediate family. If you’ve made claims for your parents, you will be entitled to receive the No-claim bonus. We will pay the Loyalty bonus even if you made a claim.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU) benefit:
The Intensive Care Unit benefit will pay double the daily benefit amount for each full day (a continuous period of 24 hours from the time of admission to the ICU) spent in the Intensive Care Unit. All insured lives covered under the Hospital Cash benefit qualify for the Intensive Care Unit benefit.

Hello Doctor benefit:
You (policy owner) have access to medical advice from registered medical doctors via a phone call or text services. You will have unlimited 24/7 phone or internet access to a doctor. You can request a “House Call” and a doctor will call you back within one hour. The Hello Doctor benefit does not replace visits to your medical doctor and is not considered to be a diagnosis of an illness.

Optional benefits:

You can choose to add these optional benefits to improve your Hospital CashBack Cover.

Accident benefits:
We will pay an additional amount of R50 000 to any other benefit amount, if you or your life partner passes away in an accident. We will pay R100 000 if you and your life partner pass away in an accident.

When physical impairment and/or disability is caused by an accident, we will pay a percentage of R50 000 depending on how severe the physical impairment and/or disability.

Premium waiver on death
If you pass away, Metropolitan will pay the premiums on your behalf. All the members covered under the Hospital Cash benefit and Accident benefit will continue to enjoy cover up to the original end date of the policy.

Family Funeral benefit:
You can choose to cover your immediate family, parents and extended family (up to six individuals). The maximum cover per member is R10 000. The selected cover level must be the same for all insured lives.

Automatic Inflation Management benefit:
This benefit helps to protect your cover against rising costs (inflation). You can choose to increase your policy premium and your daily benefit amount every year by a certain percentage.

The following waiting periods apply to new policies:

Policy owner, life partner and children: six months, unless the hospitalisation is a direct result of an accident.

a waiting period of three months regardless of the cause of hospitalisation; and
a waiting period of a further three months unless the hospitalisation is as the result of an accident.
