Actuarial Career opportunities


Metropolitan offers opportunities for actuarial students and actuaries in the following areas:
  • development and pricing of new products
  • implementation of new products
  • maintenance and improvement of existing products
  • ensuring existing products are still competitive
  • performing investigations, management statistics, competitor research
  • building sales tools and calculators
  • assisting the sales team and brokers with product-specific queries
  • assisting the Marketing team with product launches and presentations
  • developing reinsurance strategies
  • conducting valuations, profit measurement, statutory reporting (including economic capital calculations) and other management information such as embedded values.
In addition, other prospects within the MMI Group exist:
  • within Balance Sheet Management actuaries are involved in identifying, quantifying, monitoring and managing market risk
  • within the Employee Benefits division actuaries are involved in developing and pricing products and measuring profitability of group insurance and investment solutions
  • within Health actuaries are involved with designing and pricing health benefits, actuarial marketing and evaluating health risk information
  • within Short-term Insurance actuaries are involved in designing and pricing insurance benefits, setting remuneration frameworks, producing business insights, setting statutory reserves and monitoring solvency and capital sufficiency.

Actuarial Bursary Program

Metropolitan provides market-leading actuarial bursaries to students studying towards a degree in actuarial science.

Metropolitan will cover your registration and tuition fees, monthly subsistence allowance, annual textbook allowance, annual travel allowance, vacation work as well as support and mentorship.
